Africa: press freedom at the heart of an international forum

Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), organized the “African Online Media Forum” under the theme “Press Freedom” on December 10, 2023.


Five journalists from Guinea Conakry and Benin, representing media such as Vérité 224, Taneka Media, 24 Heures in Benin and Hommes d’Afrique Magazine took part in this forum organized by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), an international NGO from South Korea working for world peace.
Alpha Omar Diallo, CEO of Vérité 224, was the keynote speaker at this forum.
Speaking, Alpha Omar Diallo highlighted the history closely linked to the development of Guinea with its media and proposed measures to ensure press freedom, including the need to train journalists, strengthen public confidence in the media and combat misinformation and fake news.

During the session, participants exchanged views on the media environment and press freedom in their respective countries, actively exploring solutions to press repression and ways to improve.

Karim Goundi, communicator and Managing Director of Taneka TV in Benin, as well as Ferdinand Gadé of Magazine Hommes d’Afrique, welcomed HWPL’s global peace initiatives. These two journalists from Benin expressed the hope of collaboration between African nations. Karim Goundi and Ferdinand Gadé, stressed the need for professional training for Beninese and African journalists in general. They did not fail to raise the issue of journalists’ work materials. On this, they suggested support for professional journalism through the provision of latest generation equipment to media professionals.

Collaboration with HWPL was sought by the journalists attending this online event to support the continued development of quality journalism through the education and training of media professionals; as well as technological innovation and digital transformation in the African media landscape to help strengthen press freedom.
